Kyiv School Closures and Resilience: Finding Purpose Amidst Chaos

With Kyiv school closures, my school event never happened. The rising threat of bombings forced all schools in Kyiv to close until the end of the week. Another reminder that normalcy here is fragile, easily shattered by the sound of sirens and distant explosions.

But we remain resilient and life doesn’t stop, and neither does work. With schools closed, my schedule quickly filled with other events—birthday celebrations, a charity day, and now, with Valentine’s Day approaching, even more to prepare. Planning ahead feels like a small act of defiance, a way to carve out moments of joy in a city that has seen so much sorrow.

The past 96 hours in Kyiv have been relentless. Another wave of missile strikes targeted infrastructure, and just yesterday, a drone attack left parts of the city in darkness. Despite this, people press on. Streets still hum with movement, cafés still serve coffee, and those of us in event planning push forward, determined to keep creating reasons to smile.

I don’t know what the next few days will bring, but for now, I focus on the little things—gathering supplies, making schedules, and ensuring that, even in war, love and laughter still have a place here.
