Sleepless Nights in Kyiv: The Reality of War

The weekend was anything but quiet in Kyiv. Kyiv experienced sleepless nights as this war drags on—missiles flew through the skies, their distant thunder shaking the city. Fortunately, they didn’t land here, but other places weren’t as lucky. Strikes in nearby regions left devastation in their wake, and the worst part? The lives lost. Numbers on a screen don’t capture the full weight of it—the families left shattered, the futures stolen in an instant.
Even though Kyiv was spared this time, the nights weren’t peaceful. Drones buzzed overhead, their eerie hum a constant reminder that safety here is fragile. It’s hard to sleep when you don’t know what’s coming next, when every sudden noise jolts you into alertness. My eyes burned from exhaustion, but how can you complain when others are grieving?
Despite the chaos, we carry on. The streets are still bustling, people still go to work, and somehow, life keeps moving forward. But war has a way of seeping into everything, even in the moments that should feel normal. For now, I hold onto hope, even in the sleepless nights, even with the drones overhead. Because that’s what we do here—we endure, we survive, and we keep going.
